Course content
Animal Behaviour and Behavioural Disorders Introduction, Basic Terms in Ethology, Measuring of Behaviour. History. Analysis of Animal Behaviour. Biological Rhythms. Learning in Animals. Senses and Communication. Pheromones. Social Structure, Aggression. Sexual and Parental Behaviour. Ontogeny of Behaviour. Animal Behaviour Disorders. Credit test.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Learning outcomes
The Animal Protection lectures cover legislation of the protection of animals against cruelty, particular legal regulations concerning animal treatment, the protection of individual species of wild animals, protection of animals during import, export and transfer. During the practical training students are taught to recognize cruelty and inadequate treatment of animals. The aim of the Ethology lectures is to teach the scientific basis of animal behaviour in an extent suitable for veterinarians. Practicals are aimed at the basics of quantifying and evaluation of behaviours in companion and food animals, including behaviour problems, their prevention and treatment in swine, ruminants and poultry.
